Summary:
Chapter 29)
Persephone teases her bodyguard ‘Mosquito’ about his overly protective hovering, leading to a conversation about how he and ‘Fly’ were specifically assigned to guard her by her father after her previously close relationship with a disgraced former guard.
Chapter 30)
Persephone persists in annoying ‘Fly’ by calling him that nickname until he finally reveals some background on how he and ‘Mosquito’ were chosen by her father to guard her without emotional attachment after the previous guard’s disgrace.
Chapter 31)
After an assassination attempt on Persephone in the kitchens leaves her guard ‘Fly’ severely burned, a junior investigator reveals chilling details about the assassin’s nanotech augmentations and self-destruct mechanism to Persephone’s father Phyllip.
Chapter 32)
Phyllip covertly passes a coded message to Persephone instructing her to escape while he misleads her guards, and she begins preparing by changing into a disguise with her mother’s unwitting assistance.
