How Deadpool Can Fix The MCU

Deadpool Can Fix The MCU:

I believe that Deadpool can fix the MCU.

Deadpool 3 is in the process of being cut off at the knees.  So, the saving bit looks like it won’t happen.  At least, I won’t be holding my breath, and might even commit the sin of ‘WAITING’ to see Deadpool 3.

The news coming out of the MCU is pretty disturbing as a long-term fan.  I own dozens of the movies on disk and have watched them collectively well over a hundred times over the years.

Marvel Movies (Yes, I know they're mixed up! I'm backing them up and reorganizing)
My Marvel Movies (Yes, I know they’re mixed up! I’m backing them up and reorganizing.)

I have probably watched Deadpool 1 fifteen times, from start to finish.

I am THAT kind of fan of the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movies.

While growing up I was also familiar with the comics.  At Syracuse, I participated in the Reserve Officer program moving toward my commission.  So I had a little more free time than high school.  That was mostly because I did not have hours and hours of incessant after-school and weekend sports.  It was not that I was good at scheduling my classes during my first few years.  And had a modest income because I sold my soul for the Army contract which meant I did not need to do work study and still got a small stipend.  Because we were running all over every morning, I did not always drink myself into oblivion like many of my peers.

I visited Comic Book stores every once in a while.  I happened to come across one that stuck with me as weirdly cool while I browsed one weekend.

Much to my regret, I never bought the Deadpool comic book.

That book, and the key loophole to fixing the current MCU mess, was the Deadpool Vs Thanos book, where Deadpool steals what Thanos values most.

Lady Death’s affection!

The Multiverse: Writers Playing With Matches

I have struggled with the multiverse thing again and again over the years.  But I have always struggled with describing why until recently.

I get that actors get too old for the role, or need replacing for some other reason.  This is not an age rant on that, but realistically we can not have a twenty-five-year-old guy play Spiderman as a high school student for twenty years.

Eventually, the math just stops working and the suspension of disbelief is broken.

Setting cinematic realities aside, the concept of the Multiverse makes things difficult for other reasons.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool even asks Makavoy or Stewart stating, ‘These timelines are so confusing!’

The Light Side Of The Multiverse:

During the tragic end battle of Avengers Endgame against Thanos, Doctor Strange needed to scan the multiverses looking for a reality where ‘that current moment’ would lead to the one positive outcome of all those realities where they could save the most people possible.

The Deadpool movies we currently love also live in a reality where Wade Wilson’s mouth is not sewn shut!

Movie Deadpool Picking Up Movie Deadpool Gone Wrong
Movie Deadpool Picking Up Movie Deadpool Gone Wrong

It makes sense that Deadpool is a low priority and so annoying that no one but Colossus will bother with him.  They run that joke in the second movie where the X-Men quietly close the door hiding from Deadpool.  For the original movie budget concerns and storyline all that made sense, and opens up for jokes and comparably appropriate humor later on.

Good Multiverse!

The Dark Side Of Multiverses:

I struggled to put my finger on it for a long time, but I could not fully describe where the Multiverse concept was sending me off the rails.  The insidious dark side tickled at my senses, with a mild annoyance at the story inconsistencies for years.

I had to consciously chalk it up to a ‘Yeah, okay, new universe thing.  It’s gonna be different.  Quit whining, Doug.’

Then the sarcastic modern movie critic The Critical Drinker hit the nail Dark Side of the Multiverse thing for me square on the head!

This YouTube Video came across my feed a few days ago and I finally had the alcoholic muse-inspired whisperings to properly explain why this bothered me!

Please, let the Drinker explain it way better than I can!

Thank you to Drinker for explaining it way better than I could, and finally allowing me to finish this rant of my own!

Situation:

Things Are Currently Stuck:

Right, so, as of this writing, the situation right now with the MCU is dire!

And this hurts what is left of my soul!  For the better part of twenty years, I have enjoyed these movies!

Remember that picture at the start of all those movies?

I really want to believe that Deadpool can fix all of this.

Losses:

Now, nothing…

The MCU has lost its way creatively, qualitatively, and with adult pretender & studio behavior that has turned people off.  Something like the last five movies have lost an estimated total of something like -$1,200,000,000.

Yes, that is an estimated NEGATIVE ONE point TWO BILLION, with a ‘B’, dollars!

I have almost forty movies on my shelf all of which printed money for the study for well over two decades!

Going on a five-movie losing streak is pretty rough.

Issues & Chaos:

Then there are the DEI agenda issues plaguing Disney that are all over the news.  And the losses have started putting a crunch on the studio.  As of today, Disney is attempting to repel the first stages of a proxy fight for control of the company by large investors.

It is so bad that independent observers need to guestimate the losses on the recent MCU movies because the studio has stopped reporting the losses because they are so bad.

Then on top of all those many challenges, many media news aggregators are reporting in tandem that there are numerous scheduling and management issues on top of the forced agenda and message issues hampering creativeity.

Fading Hope:

Just today, it was reported that the ONLY potentially successful release in the Disney pipeline for the year, Deadpool 3, is suffering massive studio pressure and reshoot demands that will likely turn that movie into a hot mess too.

Hope is dwindling that Deadpool can fix & repair the damage done to the MCU over the last few years.  The same signs that foretold squiffy results on the last five are being shoved down Ryan Reynold’s throat for Deadpool 3.

So, we’ll need to hold our breath, cross our fingers and toes, and hope, on that one…

Thanos Lusts After Lady Death:

The only thing that Thanos desires is the attention and affection of Lady Death.

The Avengers – End credit scene

“To challenge them is to court death.”

Thanos WANTS to impress Lady Death.  It is one of his core arcs in the storyline.

To Invade Earth Is To Court Death:

‘To invade Earth is to court Death’ is the message Thanos gets.

Who is Death?

Lady Death the Marvel character is the embodiment of Death in that universe and carries feminine traits as one of their guises.

Wade Wilson is having fun issuing beatdowns as a mercenary.  We start with ‘Jeremy the Stalker’ setting the scene for Wade’s adventures as a mercenary.

Then while drinking a strange woman bumps into Wade at the mercenary bar.  Instead of going right after her, Wade makes it fun and puts balls in holes, and they play at an arcade for their first date.

The long period of good passed like a fun commercial break, before returning to our regularly scheduled shitty programming.  That whole time, unknown to him, Wade’s health was deteriorating.

Wade Dying:

She did not meet him until Wade was developing stage four cancer.  Only then did Wade meet Vanessa, right when Wade was ‘on Death’s doorstep’.  Alternatively, being around her causes Wade’s cancer, leading us to the same place.  So either or, it is the same result.

Once the cancer is discovered Wade has a conversation with Jed Rees’ ‘Jared the subway guy’ the Recruiter trying to sell him on becoming a superhero.  One point they talk about is Wade’s Special Forces kills ‘at about the same rate most people get a haircut.’

In the second movie, Vanessa is ‘killed’ and Wade’s cancer is held in check by his mutation.  The lovers can talk but not touch in that movie until Wade steals the timepiece from Cable and fixes it trapping Cable in the past.

Right, So All Caught Up:

I think Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa is Lady Death hidden in human form.

Or…

If Vanessa is NOT currently a hidden Lady Death, Vanessa COULD be used in that Lady Death capacity to save this whole mess via smart writing and a dreaded multiverse universe implosion.

Deadpool Can Fix It Because He Is The Thanos Irritent:

Thanos lusts after Death’s adoration.

Deadpool vs Thanos Reality Stone
Deadpool vs Thanos Reality Stone

That is why Thanos is murdering halves of worlds as he marches across the galaxy.

At the end of Avengers 3’s first part, Thanos sits down at his farm and sulks at the horror he has unleashed, fatigued and drained by his battles.  Those trials left Thanos alone and empty.

Wade on the other hand has fun killing.

Because he is fun Deadpool wins Lady Death’s attention away from Thanos.

Thanos has been massacring his way across the galaxy since at least when Gamora was a little girl.  And all that genocide has not filled the hole in his relationship with Lady Death.

And some damn mortal Human steals his girl!

How do we think that made Thanos feel?

The Curse – Why Deadpool Can’t Die:

Jealous and angry at being spurned by Lady Death, Thanos spikes Deadpool with the curse turned into the greatest superpower ever!

Thanos curses Deadpool with immortality specifically so that Deadpool can never truly die so Deadpool and Lady Death can never be together.  Deadpool will always recover from his injuries.

That kind of sounds like that bit where Wade reaches out for Vanessa and strikes the invisible barrier in Deadpool 2.  In the comics, Deadpool can’t die because of the curse of immortality permanently separating him and Lady Death.  In the movies, which are pretty darn close to the book themes, by circumstances in Deadpool 1, and then assassination when they get back together at the beginning of Deadpool 2.

Deadpool Stole Thanos’ Girl:

Was that because Wade’s cancer was held in check?  Or was that because Deadpool was cursed by Thanos with immortality and unable to be with Vanessa?

If Vanessa is Lady Death.  And as per the end credit scene for Avengers 1, Thanos is seeking ‘to court Death’.  That puts Lady Death on Earth, sleeping with Wade Wilson, an obnoxious human with only the power to heal from a severe beating.  Up against a Titan warlord who has been slaughtering his way across the galaxy for at least a generation to impress the girl.

And she chooses some squishy human?

Don’t you think that would piss off the warlord a little?

Maybe enough to derail the Titan’s plans?

The Deadpool Movies In The Multi-Verse:

The Spiderman movies operate in the MCU multiverse.

The whole Loki series was about pruning the multiverse.

Doctor Strange scanned all those millions of possible realities looking for the one solution for victory.

There are multiple versions of the X-Men in those movies.

Deadpool Can Fix The MCU By:

Then there is the whole original X-Men movie where the Wade Wilson Merc With The Mouth was sewn shut and swords grafted into his arms.  That ‘multiversed’ out of the way with the new traditional red-suited Wade Wilson Deadpool came out.

If Vanessa is Lady Death hidden in Human form that just might irritate Thanos to create a diversion from this timeline gone astray.

An Annoying Deadpool vs A Bleeding Thanos
An Annoying Deadpool vs A Bleeding Thanos

A mortal Thanos, after giving away his immortality to curse Wade Wilson for stealing his girl, is a vulnerable Thanos.

The MCU Is A Bad Dream:

The last five movies in the MCU have been lackluster.

At this point that I have seen, movie box office results are not being reported clearly.  Independent movie buffs are estimating something crazy like that the last five movies lost something between -$1.2B and -$1.75 Billion.

If that scale of losses is even halfway accurate, that is a big chunk of money and a colossal misstep.

Proxy fights are going on for control of Disney.  From the reporting I’ve seen there with the MCU, Star Wars, and Pixar all falling on their faces together things are rough.

I struggled with the first season of Loki.  I’ve been on ‘wait and see’ mode with everything after.  I have not liked what I have seen.

The MCU has been a bad dream for me as a fan for the last five years or so.  I can’t imagine Disney investors are having much fun with these losses either.

That is How Deadpool Can Fix It!

Recap…

Thanos the genocidal Titan warlord is not having fun with his rampage while trying to impress Lady Death.

Lady Death shacks up with a squishy human instead of Thanos.

Thanos cursed Wade by giving his (Thanos’) immortality to Deadpool.  Deadpool can now never die, nor can he be with Lady Death.

Thanos has now opened himself to defeat because he is no longer immortal.

The snap has not happened in the Deadpool universe only because something that important would have been mentioned.  Though the helicarrier from the first Avengers movie was being scrapped by Ajax and his crew.

Thanos has been informed that ‘to invade earth is to court Death’ because the first Avengers movie would have happened.

Deadpool would have to take place between Avengers 1 and Captain America –  Civil War and the launch of those automated murder carriers they were building.

Deadpool can fix things because Deadpool 3 could divert the snap, and rewrite the universe by killing Thanos, who has surrendered his immortality, before the Avengers 3 double movie.  That would wipe out all that mess.

It Won’t Happen:

With the real-world politics and executive-level meddling going on with the production of Deadpool 3 I cringe at what this will mean for the film.

Given their track record over the last few years, I do not think that the studio will have the introspection to course correct.

This feels like we will get a Deadpool movie that is a shadow of what it could have been.

I don’t like it, but the last years of MCU disappointments do not leave me optimistic that they will divert here to use Deadpool to fix the MCU.

They will fumble along, business as usual, tamp down the creativity that won Deadpool 1 its acclaim, and produce a lackluster shadow of what Deadpool 3 could have been.

And as a fan, that hurts my soul.
